Combined Wine Tours

A Silk Road wine tour is a journey back to the very beginning of the art of winemaking.  By traversing wine’s ancient highways and byways, we’ll take you on an unforgettable wine tour odyssey to explore the cellars and caves where wine was invented, as well as the thriving modern estates that are keeping traditional Caucasian winemaking thriving.

We’ll start the adventure in Georgia, a land with a proven wine history that is over 8,000 years old.  Our wine tour in Georgia will take us to the very best modern wineries in Kakheti, the heartland of Georgian wine.  Along the way will also visit village homes to see how families make wine the same way it has been mad for millennia – in wax-lined clay pots called qvevri.

On the second half of our wine tour, we’ll explore Armenia’sgreat wine regions – the sun-drenched foothills of Aragatsotn and the rugged mountaintops of VayotsDzor.  En route to Armenia will uncover a lost Soviet stash of 40 year-old wines that we’ll drink straight from the barrel…talk about adventure!

It is here that we’ll explore rocky soils, old caves (recently the world’s oldest winery (6,100 years old) was found in a cave in VayotsDzor, though it is not yet open to the public) and taste wines from Armenia’s emerging estates, including Zorah, which was ranked by BusinessWeekmagazine as offering one of the World’s Top 10 New Wines of 2012.

In all, our Silk Road wine tour is an unforgettable journey into lands long forgotten and a time when wine was at its most primitive and raw.  It’s a tour you won’t want to miss!
